Last night was C-R-A-Z-Y. Not only did I spend most of the night baking...my refrigerator is officially packed to the gills....but Polly decided that it would be fun to run away and scare me to death! Before I start the story, I will tell you that the ending is happy and she was returned to me safely by my cat rescuing husband!
So I got home from the gym last night and headed straight into the kitchen. Sorry, no pictures like I had hoped, like I said, things got a little hairy! Polly was there when I came home and was playing in the kitchen while I baked. Apparently, when Clay came in from the gym about 20 minutes later, Polly slipped out the door. She's done the a few times recently, but she usually comes right back in the house. To be honest, I really didn't notice that I hadn't seen for a couple of hours. She's prone to hiding (and she's VERY good at it), so we just assumed she was curled up in my sock basket under the bed. When I got ready to go to bed, I knew something wasn't right. About that time I realized that I hadn't seen her since Clay got home. Panic kicks in right about now.
I'm looking in the parking lot, Clay's checking underneath all the beds, I'm freaking out....(this is where is patience and calmness I mentioned yesterday comes in handy). Finally, Clay convinces me to get in the bed because I'm literally about to fall over I'm so tired. He's slips on his shoes and heads outside to look for her. Not 10 minutes later, Clay and my sweet Polly are standing in the bedroom doorway. She was hiding underneath some stairs on the other side of our building. I know she was probably terrified....mainly because she's been a different cat since she came home last night. She's been much calmer than usual! Yay for happy endings and cat finding husbands!

More cooking to do tonight....cornbread for dressing and icing for cakes. Fingers crossed for pictures! :)
So today I'm thankful for my family. I was thinking about this as I was baking last night. My parents always provided for us growing up and taught us many great lessons that I'll always carry with me. My grandmothers shared their love for cooking with me as a child, and now their wonderful holiday recipes. While I doubt I'll ever cook anything as well as they did...I'll sure try! Both my grandfathers for served in the military. I'm currently watching a series on the History Channel called WWII in HD. I highly recommend. While I was watching last night I thought of my grandfathers and the courage it took to serve in the military. Of course their are dozens of other family members I have to thank for various things. I'm thankful for them all and the different ways they've impacted my life!
